13Villages Coffee is a family owned business of African coffee. We are from the Teh clan of the Battor traditional area in the Volta Region of Ghana. Battor is made up of 5 clans and the Teh clan is the warrior clan. The Teh Clan is made up of 13 Villages.
Being warriors comes with great responsibility – to defend our people and a resolve to seek peace at all times.
In the Volta region, Agbadza is a common dance. Each traditional area has a different variety of Agbadza that is distinguishable by the different speeds, styles, lyrics, and patterns of drumming.
Our father speaks of growing up in the village – of how at dusk each village in the clan will dance to the same songs and drums. This is how you knew we were the same people. At dusk, we dance Kedzanyi (a variety of Agbadza) and there is a lot of laughter, freedom, creative dancing, fun-making and a general spirit of community and unity.
He used this illustration to emphasize unity within the Clan and remind those who want to divide our people that we all dance to the same drums and rhythms.
We set out to create a portfolio of the best coffee from the African continent.
We hope you find our common humanity in every cup of our coffee no matter where in the world you find yourself.
13 Villages, One People.
